“Fortnight” derives from the Old English fēowertyne niht, meaning fourteen nights. CCFF is proud to present the Fortnight Film Contest each year in conjunction with the festival. Teams of student, amateur and seasoned filmmakers are commissioned to create a short film no longer than 10 minutes over the course of 14 days with specific elements involved. Thirty-two teams participated in the 2014 contest!

Required Spoken Word: “Lansing” or “Michigan” or both
Required Shot: Silhouette shot
Required Action: Door slam or close
Required Location: Bus stop or bus station

The submissions have been judged by a large panel of film lovers and filmmakers, and the top 15 picks are shown at this event. Cash prizes total $5,000 and the winners will be announced after the screenings!

Here are the Top 16* films, listed alphabetically. They will NOT be screened in this order on April 13.

Baggage, Bang, Carry the Weight, Decay, Everyone’s a Comedian, Friend Flush, The Greatest , Intruders, My Day With Dan, Nights, Like These, Omerta, Side Effects, Special Admittance, Underland, Waiting, The Worst Film Ever Submitted to the Capital City Film Festival

*This year, we’re playing an extra film that was turned in a few minutes late because, by the scores, they would have made it into the Top 15. We are not bumping anyone who turned in their film on time, and they will not be eligible for any prizes. The extra film is simply a bonus.
