Becoming a young adult and just getting started in the world is a hard reality for most kids. Such is the case with graduating seniors Tyrese, Larissa, Josh, and Jeremy. But adding on the hardship of being a young person of color in our current world makes being a teenager more complicated. What starts off being a normal day quickly turns into a life altering situation that forces these characters to reckon with the hardships of being a person of color and a true ally.

Set in 1950s Bronzeville, Louise Parker is facing eviction from her home. Desperate to keep her independence and status, she is introduced to a lucrative performing opportunity. While attempting to keep this new venture a secret, she simultaneously gains popularity, risking being exposed to and disowned by her mother.
