The Forgotten: Sustainable Clean Energy for the Brazilian Amazon
2024 / United States / 29 Minutes / Dave Wasinger, Judy Walgren
Film Synopsis
“The Forgotten” is a documentary short showcasing the hard work and research of the team behind The Convergence for Innovative Energy Solutions project funded by the National Science Foundation under their Growing Convergence Research (GCR) program. Headquartered out of the Michigan State University in Michigan, the convergence team’s goal is to deliver transformative advances in science and technology to off-the-grid communities, where energy is too expensive or unreliable. Presently, the team is focused on in-stream turbines (without dams) that permit fish and vessels to move freely, allow fishers to maintain their livelihoods, and eliminate the need for resettlement. “The Forgotten” follows the team as they finalize installation of small solar arrays in villages in the Brazilian Amazon and the installation of their in-stream turbine – the first in the Amazon in nearly 20 years – at one village.
