Film Synopsis

Written by queer writer Asa Haynes, and starring trans actor Jax Guerrero, “…and Release” offers an authentic and nuanced portrayal of Cal, a transgender man on the cusp of a significant life change. The film delves into Cal’s journey of self-discovery and his decision to pursue his passion for dance in New York. Through the lens of a Black queer writer, the narrative subtly weaves in the complexities of being transgender while navigating friendships, societal expectations, and microaggressions and misunderstandings that Cal encounters. A celebration of liberation and expression of someone in pursuit of a life where he can thrive and live his authentic self.
