Joybubbles
This program is an OPEN SCREENING: Open audio description and open captions
“JOYBUBBLES comes to us from a Sundance premiere where, in a first for the festival, it was screened with open audio descriptions and open captions, foregrounding the accessibility at the heart of the story. The human connection that Joybubbles craved and fought for relentlessly is the same impulse that animates the Capital City Film Festival. And if you want a taste of the Joybubbles spirit, here’s a little interactive promotion: call (350) FEE-LING to learn more about the film and hear an episode from Joybubbles’ Zzzzyzzerrific Funline (this will all make more sense when you watch the movie!)” – CCFF26 Programming Team

Joybubbles
In the 1950s, a boy discovers he can control the global telephone system simply by whistling a magic tone. Born blind and hungry for connection, his early obsession with the telephone sparks a subculture that shapes the future of hacking and modern technology in the 20th century.
Told through vivid archival footage and Joybubbles’ own voice recordings, the film celebrates a visionary who redefined connection and challenged assumptions about disability, identity, and imagination. JOYBUBBLES pulses with the curiosity and wonder he brought to the world, brought to life through director Rachael J. Morrison’s inventive, tactile storytelling.
