CURTIS FROM DETROIT! An Afternoon with Curtis Chin

Join the Capital City Film Festival, Capital Area District Libraries, and MSU Libraries for an afternoon with Great Michigan Read’s featured author. Curtis Chin is the author of the award-winning memoir, “Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant.” He is co-founder and founding executive director of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop. Curtis wrote comedy for network and cable television before transitioning to social justice documentaries. This event will feature a short documentary screening of Curtis’s latest project followed by a discussion about his self-discovery, activism, and the power of storytelling across a variety of mediums. Curtis will be available for book signing following the event, and A Novel Concept will be onsite with copies of his book for sale.
This author event with Curtis Chin is part of the Great Michigan Read spring tour. The 2025–26 Great Michigan Read is presented by Michigan Humanities. Additional support is provided by national, statewide, and local partners, including the Library of Michigan and MSU Federal Credit Union.
